Carly is a multidisciplinary designer, design researcher and Associate Lecturer at UNSW Art & Design. She holds a Bachelor of Music Studies (Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, a Bachelor of Design (First Class Honours) from UNSW and is currently completing a PhD in Design Research (UNSW.) Carly's research is practice-based and explores the application of visual communication theories in live classical music performance contexts.
As a freelance graphic designer, Carly primarily works on design for print with a significant focus on design for performance, creative arts and educative contexts. She also works on projects for film, primarily title and credit design.
Carly has also worked as a practicing designer/maker and was a founding designer and director of The Fortynine Studio, a collaborative design studio based in Sydney. Notable projects with The Fortynine Studio have included ReForm Laneway Exhibition as part of Sydney Design 2011, and The Bushfire Collection, a set of works selected for exhibition in Milan Design Week 2014. Carly has also worked extensively as a music educator and conductor in NSW Public Schools and for The Arts Unit, a specialist branch of the NSW Department of Education.
